Thank you for the gift of DEMOCRACY... may we continue to be vigilant in preserving the freedom that you have restored for us Filipinos.

Pagkamulat....

No Boundaries...

As classes begin, I was surprised to see many AETAS at MQC. There are about 18 of them who are enrolled this semester. Majority of them took BS EDUCATION, and the rest are enrolled in other courses.

I had the chance to meet some of them during the orientation in our department (Education Department) and I admit that I am one of the students here in MQC who would not care about their presence at all. During the orientation each one was given the opportunity to introduce himself or herself. Many of us were laughing because they were so shy to go in front and say something about themselves. So, as we laughed at them, they laughed at themselves as well. Laughters filled the air and one of them introduced herself and she said that she wants to finish her studies so that she could improve their living. It was a very simple and common wish but it really strikes me because that is one of my dreams too. This is the very reason why we are all here in this institution.

I’ve realized that just like other students, AETAS also have their dreams to finish their studies and to improve their status in living. So this is the reason why they are studying hard, enjoying their right to education inspite the hardships, trials and challenges that they have to face. But more often than not, they are shy and they feel inferior.

As a family in this institution, we have to be sensitive to their needs, feelings, emotions and situations. The question is, how can we, the students help attend to their needs? The answer is simple...respect and accept them. Accept them for what they are and what culture they have. We must eradicate racial discrimination, we should not let them feel that we are superior and they are inferior to us. They should not feel that their race bound us apart. Let us not ignore their presence. We should at least be kind enough to wear a smile on our faces everytime we see them. That way, they will feel at ease and accepted. Respect them in all aspects of their individuality, specially their physical aspect because we are equal in the eyes of our Creator. If you want to be respected, then you must give respect that is due to them.

AETAS are in the campus for education because they believe that it would change their fate in life. Let us not pull them down by making boundaries instead, let us reach for their hands and help them attain their goals. In fact, when you know you did your part to be kind enough for them, at the end of the day, as you retire to bed, you will have this overwhelming feeling in your heart, a feeling of joy and fulfillment because you have treated them with NO BOUNDARIES.

Sometimes Life Is Unfair...

It's 2:00AM...As I try to sleep, I can't help but have these thoughts...

As I face my new responsibility in the institution...I begin to think how challenging my task is. I am now exposed into realities in life where I see some students struggle to reach their goals. I wonder why do they have to face problems like school supplies, uniforms, boarding houses, allowances, etc... Why can't life be fair to them?

My heart bleeds as I hear the group of aetas express their ambitions in life during their Personality Development Seminar. One of them wants to finish his studies so he can teach his parents to write their names and so he can help others in their community to read and write. It is the dream of a lady to help her family be delivered from poverty. Another lady wants to be a nurse so she can serve her sick "katutubos" and help them become aware of health and safety.

I was just thinking how their dreams and their ambitions in life be realized. At the moment still, some of them don't have the needed school supplies. While some of them are already housed in some parishes, others are still looking for a place near the school that they can occupy. Their problem though does not end here...for they still have to battle and face everyday challenges in life in terms of economic, social, mental and psychological.

Maybe I need to sleep now...tomorrow will surely be another day...my wish and my dream is for a day to come that these students will be delivered from the bondage of poverty...that they will be out of misery and that they will become successful in life.

How I wish I can do more...how I wish I can address most of their needs...

Random Thoughts...

How am I doing?

...been a month now since I am back to the academe...hmmm...it is really tough handling a service ministry in the non academic field. waaah...to put up an office from scratch is really challenging and difficult. with all the tasks and activities you have to implement, it is not easy indeed. I wonder if I am really capable of doing all the activities that are lined up for the semester? esep esep...haayz...hellllp...

Will they make it?

...another concern I have in mind is...will our "kapatad" (aeta scholars) make it to the Prelims? hmm....this week is the examination week...I am thinking of helping them though by having a review on some of their subjects...I hope to squeeze in some time for them...I know this will definitely require an additional effort on my part but then, I honestly feel that they really need assistance...ahhh...let me ask the volunteers to extend help for them...hmmm...yess, I believe they can help...

What if...?

...I am just thinking...what if through this blog many students of MQC will become outreach volunteers? hmmm...not bad...this is by the way my wish and my dream...for when students become part of this organization, then its vision and mission will be realized...well, it is NOT impossible...in time I know it will happen...in time...in God's own time...

Thought for the Day!

I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.
